Here is an update of the African penguin construction for the week of June 24th.
If you want to learn more about the overall build, visit our construction page. If you want to learn more about African penguins in general, visit our African Penguin page.
Currently, the Whiting Turner construction team is setting up their trailer near the tram stop by the polar bears. The company is marking and planning where to set up the fence around the area to be able to break ground. The construction will not affect any other exhibits here at the Zoo but it will be seen by all visitors and guests. The penguins will currently remain on Rock Island, accessible to the public, until the construction is finished and we have prepared the necessary precautions to transfer them to their new home.
Because of the placement of the new exhibit, we are in the process of removing the current tram and have begun to re-route a new shuttle path down Buffalo Yard Road that will be in effect as of Friday, June 28th. This shuttle will continue to give guests the option of a short ride versus a walk to the main exhibit areas.
Keep checking back for more pictures and updates on the new African penguin exhibit here at the Zoo.
